Symptoms for Neck and Shoulder Region Pain

Pain or stiffness in the area around the neck, either centrally, or off to one or both sides. This includes pain with turning the head

Pain or tightness in the muscles across the top of the ‘shoulder region’

The pain can also sometimes radiate down one or both arms, or be felt as other sensations such as pins and needles, numbness or tingling


Causes of Neck And Shoulder Region Pain

Chronic postural strain - This is one of the most common presentations we see, where the shoulders are ‘more rounded’ than is ideal, and this creates strain in the neck area. There are a number of causes for this condition. Lifespan Osteopaths will examine your whole body to determine the cause of your postural issues

An injury that comes about from repetitive neck movements or strain, such as looking down at a mobile phone screen or laptop

An acute injury, such as whiplash

Stress, which can cause increased muscular tension in this region
