Treatment For Headache

9 out of 10 people will experience a headache at some stage of their lives. Some will be mild and transient, whereas others will be recurrent or more severe.

Tension Headache Symptoms Include:

Mild to moderate pain

Felt on both sides of the head

A feeling of ‘tightness’ or ‘tension’ in the upper back and neck

Gradual onset

Possible difficulty sleeping or concentrating, as well as anxiety or depression

Possible Causes of Tension Headaches Include:

Jaw clenching or tooth grinding

An injury that comes about from repetitive neck movements or strain, such as looking down at a mobile phone screen or laptop

Poor posture

Fatigue

Stress and anxiety or depression

Other types of headaches that we commonly see are migraines, as well cluster headaches.

We start with a full history and examination, to ensure we accurately diagnose the type and source of your headaches.

We will work with you to develop a management plan, including strategies such as:

Techniques to help you sleep

Advice on the type and frequency of exercise that best suits you

How to perform relaxation techniques such as meditation

Specific stretching or strengthening exercises

Often headaches involve tension or strain in the upper back and neck area; however, the problem may also be related to dysfunction elsewhere in your body. Your Lifespan Osteopath will perform a thorough examination to determine what areas of your body are contributing to your pain.
