The most common cause of Plantar Fasciitis is repetitive micro trauma.
Research suggests that repeated stress of the foot’s arch with weight bearing can lead to an accumulation of tiny tears in the plantar fascia.
Over time, these micro tears become painful.
Plantar fasciitis used to be thought of as an inflammatory condition.
However, we now think of it as more of a degenerative process, common to many tendons in the body.
✔️ Occupations requiring prolonged standing and weight bearing
✔️ Heel Spurs
✔️ Hormonal changes such as Menopause in women
✔️ “Flat feet”, or exceptionally high arches
✔️ Leg length differences
✔️ Tightness in the hamstrings, achilles or calf muscles
✔️ Decreased ankle mobility
✔️ Increased age
✔️ Being in a higher weight range
✔️ Certain medical conditions, known as “Spondyloarthropathies”
✔️ Being female: women are 2x more likely than men to develop plantar fasciitis
Some of these factors can’t be changed.
However, here at Lifespan we focus on the things we can control.
Our Expert team are highly trained to help your body move in the best way possible for you.
Shockwave therapy works in two ways.
1. It lowers the concentration of one of the chemicals needed for your body to perceive pain.
2. It interferes with the inflammation process, which may help to kickstart the healing process.
” The results of the multi-center, randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blinded clinical study demonstrate that treatment with the EMS Swiss DolorClast® provides significant pain- relief to patients with symptoms of proximal plantar fasciitis of at least 6 months duration who had failed previous conservative therapy.”

Lifespan Osteopathy was founded in 2018 by husband and wife team, Dr Jason Ferrante and Dr Lauren Matthews, Osteopaths.
Jason and Lauren are Essendon locals who graduated from RMIT University in 2003 and 2005.
They have built a team of fellow local Osteopaths whose passion is to serve their local Community.
The EMS DolorClast Radial Shockwave machine in use at Lifespan Osteopathy is the only machine currently on the market to have US FDA approval.
This means it has undergone rigorous testing to prove that not only is it safe, it is also effective.
Many other machines simply do not have the efficacy data to back them up.
